This will be a unique position, especially in most of 2024 when Cavalcanti Ambulatory Equine Services is a newer business. Looking for help with equine dentals and equine soundness exams/pre-purchase exams to start. The great part of this up front is you can give us your availability (for examples: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Tuesdays every other week...) and then we can reach out to you as soon as we know our booking schedule (We will give you the following week's schedule in advance so you can schedule your days!). This would also likely be the set-up during slower season (November-March) because it often correlates with harsher weather and our routine care appointments are anticipated to be slower these months.
Once we are more established, there is a STRONG likelihood of this turning into a steady part-time or even full time position during the busier season (April-October) as we will want an assistant for most daytime appointments.

Requirements (we are open to pre-veterinary/veterinary/veterinary technician/veterinary assistant shadows as unpaid positions anytime of the year and can waive the following requirements for those)

  • Applicants must have a strong comfort handling equine patients AND be willing to learn our expected safety in handling them in the veterinary setting which often differs from personal horse experience.

  • Applicants must have a reliable source of transportation and be on time for scheduled appointments. We are a fully ambulatory clinic and will meet and leave from the same location each day and then end the day at this location. During the day, you will be in our vehicle going to different farms around the area.

  • Applicants must have at least 2 references who can vouch for your horse handling skills AND either veterinary or barn work experience (these do not need to be paid work experiences)

  • Medical training is a bonus but NOT required as we can train any aspects of the medical skills or knowledge that we would like you to know.

  • Applicant understands that this job is both weather dependent and client availability dependent. What this means is that we may end up having last minute cancellations due to harsh weather/dangerous road conditions/client cancellations. We will reach out to you as soon as we get notice but sometimes this may be the morning of. Applicant also understands that Cavalcanti Ambulatory Equine Services provides emergency care to established clients which means that sometimes the day may go later than anticipated. Applicant will be notified of any add-ons and we will make every attempt to drop off applicant to their vehicle if they cannot continue after-hours.

  • In order to be considered for this position, please email the following to shilo.caes@gmail.com

    1. Current resume

    2. Current equine references with contact information

    3. Availability for the next few months (again, you can be very flexible as we will work with you!). We will offer appointment slots M-F.
