Dr. Shilo Cavalcanti is the owner and sole veterinarian of Cavalcanti Ambulatory Equine Services. She spent her early years on the East Coast and graduated from SUNY Buffalo with bachelor degrees in biology and psychology in 2011.  Dr. Shilo moved to the Midwest to attend veterinary school and graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She then completed a year long internship at a full service private referral hospital, Kendell Road Equine Hospital in Elgin, Illinois.
Dr. Shilo was drawn to Colorado’s gorgeous landscape and weather and has been practicing in the area as an equine veterinarian since July 2017. Dr. Shilo enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary medicine and has professional interests in emergency medicine, internal medicine, business management, and developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
In her personal life, Dr. Shilo loves hiking, traveling and exploring new places, and spending time with her family. She has been with her wonderful husband Victor since high school and he is acting as her business partner in this new endeavor. They welcomed their beautiful daughter, Ellie Rose, in February 2024 and are enjoying every moment with her. Their family also includes 2 dogs (Angel and Daisy), 2 cats (Kitty and Neil), and a flight cage full of zebra finches. Dr. Shilo does not currently own a horse, but looks forward to sharing her deep love for horses and riding with Ellie and Victor in the near future.
Emily Cochrane was born and raised in San Diego, California and moved to Colorado Springs with her husband in 2021. Emily was fascinated by horses from a very young age, so she took riding lessons and helped to care for her friends' horses in an effort to get around them as much as possible. When Emily was in high school, she and her mother purchased their first horse, a quarter horse named Nell, who was an absolute joy for the few years they got to spend with her. This experience, along with working in small animal medicine for several years made Emily realize how incredible animals are, and what a privilege it is to be able to help relieve their pain so they can live happy, healthy lives. This solidified her interest in veterinary medicine further, and eventually led her to make the decision to pursue a career as a veterinarian. Emily is currently pursuing a bachelors of science at UCCS, with the plan to apply to CSU college of veterinary medicine in the future. Outside of her studies and work, Emily loves to go hiking and camping with her husband and two dogs, work on her garden or other home projects, crochet, and read.
Katy was born in Dubuque, Iowa and grew up around horses. After graduating high school in 2005, Katy worked at her local animal shelter. There, she decided to further her love of animals. Katy then moved to Denver, Colorado in 2011 to attend the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She graduated in 2014 with her Associate Degree in Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. After graduation, Katy worked in different practices ranging from small animal to mixed. Katy loves being a Veterinary Technician and enjoys using her technical skills, especially when it comes to venipuncture, anesthesia, and emergency medicine. She is currently attending Oregon State University online to complete her bachelor’s degree in Zoology. She hopes in the future to work at a zoo or conservation.
In the summer of 2022, her love and passion for horses brought her to the Equestrian Center at the Air Force Academy. There, she tends to all of the horses on base and their owners.  Katy currently owns a rescue kitten named Missy, and two horses; a 25-year-old Appendix named Pigeon, a retiree from the dude string at the Air Force Academy, and Dually, a 4-year-old BLM Mustang.  In her spare time, you will find her spending time with her three children, exploring the hiking trails of Colorado, training her mustang, and riding the beautiful trails at USAFA.
Katy is super excited to be joining Dr. Shilo, meeting clients, and taking care of their horses.
Evelyn Kronlage was born and raised in Colorado Springs, where her love for horses was sparked by a horseback riding birthday party 10 years ago. This passion led her to start leasing horses to show, and eventually to training and showing her own two horses, Ellie and Ally. Over the years, her dedication and talent in the sport have earned her two world titles and a bronze world title. In addition to her equestrian achievements, Evelyn is also an ultra-marathoner, having competed in races like the Pikes Peak Ascent and marathon. Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in biology, Evelyn plans to attend medical school to eventually have a career in pathology, all sparked by her curiosity to take care of and fully understand horses. Despite her aspirations in human medicine, she remains passionate about horses and has been working as an assistant at equine clinics. Balancing her love for medicine and horses, Evelyn is excited to continue learning and growing in both fields.
